Celery stems

Pear, celery, cucumber and mint

After telling a friend that I was about to have a glut of celery, I was presented with one of these.

A freshly made pear, celery, cucumber, and mint concoction, straight out of his juicer. Delicious.

(2 pears, 1 stick of celery, about half a small cucumber, peeled and seeded, just a hint of crushed mint. Makes two glasses).

Here’s the celery, almost ready to start picking. the runner beans and I have both been taken aback by its healthy vigour… It’s the first time I’ve grown celery, always thinking it was a tricky plant, so I’m really looking forward to trying it. And the beans are looking forward to it leaving their bed.

celery in JulyI’m  delighted to see that a cucumber is forming on one of my five plants, and the mint is thriving in its pot, so a few more summer drinks in the making (bottle of Pimms ready in the cupboard)… But any other ideas for celery, raw, cooked or preserved, will be most welcome!
