I read today that it’s best to harvest tomatoes with the calyx (the green bit) and a bit of stalk intact. Apparently it stops them splitting, especially on the small varieties.

I wonder what commercial growers do to get ‘vine tomatoes’ to be ripe and red all at the same time? It certainly doesn’t happen naturally.
